Celebrating everyday magic

FALL FUN

October 27, 2021

I can’t believe that Halloween is only 5 days away! EEEEEKKKKKK! Why does it feel like fall flies by faster than any other season?!? Too many festive things to do and not enough time! Our nights are fill with soccer practice, gymnastics, American Heritage Girls ( a Christian version of Girl Scouts), Book Club for Mama, cooking, reading, baths, and the bedtime routine that never ends. We have been trying to soak in all the fun fall activities every chance (and sunny day) we get! Last week we went to a local pumpkin patch and ate all the apple cider donuts we could get our hands on. We picked out a few pumpkins to carve, and about 47 for our porch, and are planning a fun carving party when my family gets here this weekend. I live for these moments!

We have a few more fallish things on our agenda and I’ll be sure to do a round up of all our favorites. I hope you’re having the most magical fall season, friends! Don’t let it pass you by! XO

FALL BUCKET LIST

October 27, 2021

As the eve of Halloween is just around the corner, we are trying to squeeze in every last ounce of festive fun! Normally, I’m all about Christmas starting November 1st, but this year I kinda feel like just resting in the magic of the season and I’m trying to savor the slowness and simplicity of exactly where we’re at. I think I’ll be busting out a few more leaf and pumpkin activities into November. But you better believe there will be Christmas music playing in the background! #sorrynotsorry.

Here are a few of our bucket list/favorite things from over the years. We love keeping a few traditional ones as well as adding a few new things to try each season.

Go apple picking and make apple treats.

Have a Halloween party.

Perfect a harvest cheese board.

Visit a local pumpkin patch. Or two. Or three.

Watch all the festive fall movies.

Hang paper bats and cobwebs.

Have a pumpkin carving party with family or friends.

Create pumpkin cottages for fairies.

Beeswax leaf dipping.

Make yummy spooky treats.

Read all our favorite fall books with apple cider.

Annual apple pressing day with Drew’s family.

Snuggle in watching football.

Do some fun fall crafts and art projects.

Make homemade soup.

Wear matching festive jammies.

So much to do, so little time! It really is the most wonderful time of the year! XO

EASTER EGG-TIVITIES

April 2, 2021

Easter is just a few days away and I’m finding myself trying to cram in every possible cute egg activity that ever popped up on my feed! Anyone else with me?!? And while all that cutsie stuff is super fun, I always try to pair it with tangible teaching and learning opportunities. When I was teaching in a classroom I would call that craft-tivities. The pairing of a cute craft and activity to provide a fun hands on learning opportunity for my Littles. Homeschooling is no different. We are always trying to get the most bang for our buck. Sometimes we do a fun project just for a fun projects sake, but even pairing it with a good book or quick lesson makes it so much more worth it!

Right around Easter I love to teach about oviparous animals and it’s so easy to incorporate into our egg-tivities. I bought a cute April Science packet from the amazing Cara Carroll and Abby Mullins and it is packed full of great learning resources that I sprinkle though our learning. The other arts and crafts projects are Pintestest inspirations that I just pair with a little learning. A few of our favorites have been mosaic eggs, egg hunts with sight words, spill and count, finding eggs hidden around the house with candies inside that you get to spill and count (and eat!) exploding eggs with food coloring, baking soda, and vinegar, and of course, dying eggs!

Penelope got a bird house and birdseeds from Mimi and Papa for her birthday and it has been so much fun watching all the birds that come by! That house is always hoppin’! She sits by the window with her bird books and sketches all the birds she sees. It’s been such a fun way to incorporate eggs, nests, and birds into this Spring season. What are some of your favorite egg-tivities this season?! XO
