Celebrating everyday magic

HALLOWEEN 2021

November 17, 2021

We have already taken down all our Halloween decorations and I’ve bought all my Christmas wrapping paper but I just couldn’t let the holidays come and go without a quick little Halloween recap. Halloween on a Sunday was so much fun! My parents were in town and we did all the things! We had plans all weekend long and were really able to soak in allllll the festivities before the big night! That being said, it felt like Halloween lasted for an entire week and this Mama is so. dang. tired. and quiet frankly, totally ready to say goodbye to Halloween for the year.

Our weather was beautiful and we spend Friday night hosting our homeschool friends for brisket and treats. We set up a movie on the projector complete with leaves, pumpkins, and twinkle lights. So fun! My Dad also set up a haunted house in the garage, something he used to do when I was a kid and the kids were sooooo into it! They totally loved it and it was so special to see my girls getting so into it! Saturday morning was soccer games and a day date for Mom and Dad finished off with tacos and Ted Lasso. (#goals) My sister and her husband came into town and it was so fun to get to share in the festivities together. Sunday morning we carved pumpkins and had our annual Halloween party complete with family costumes, homemade lasagna, wine, round two of the haunted house, and soooooo many treats.

We did two sets of costumes because why not make things really crazy and #gobigorgohome.

I would like to be clear that my family will never again participate in family costumes! So much freaking work and tears from almost everyone. This blog post is to prove that for one moment in time, I was a mom who had it all together (or was crazy enough) to make her kids dress up how she wanted them to. But NEVER AGAIN! As Drew would say, “the juice was not worth the squeeze.” 😉 Such a festive, fun weekend and now looking forward to savoring these last few weeks of fall colors and prepping our hearts for Thanksgiving and the magic of Christmas.

Hope you had the best Halloween, until next year! XO

THE PUMPKIN PATCH

October 28, 2021

Taking the kids to the pumpkin patch is one of my favorite things of all time. I literally LIVE for it and have been know to drive hours (and spend an ungodly amount of money) to find the best ones. A quality my husband finds super sexy. 😉 I continue to add to our pumpkin collection every time we go to the store all through the month of October. Another trait my husband just can’t resist. You really cannot have too many pumpkins on your front steps or scattered throughout your home. We have a few local patches in our area that are just the best and this year we lucked out with the BEST weather on the days we went. All the praise hands!

How I imagine the pumpkin patch going is usually very different from how it actually goes. I imagine kids frolicking around, smiling for family photos, eating apple cider donuts to our hearts content, and choosing a pumpkin or two to take home to carve. How it actually goes: sweating my butt off while chasing around a wild toddler, the two older girls running in opposite directions. Me, huffing it up the giant slide in order to gracefully tumble down into a pile of hay head first. Realizing everyone in the state of Washington has also decided to go to said pumpkin patch. Break up arguments over who gets to hold the map for the corn maze, pick up toddler who has slipped in a gigantic mud puddle. Realize you forgot to bring a change of clothes for the toddler. Also, you’re out of wipes. make 16 trips to the bathroom snapping a handful of photos where nobody is looking at the camera. Spend approximately $213 on donuts and pumpkins. Pile into the car exhausted, covered in dirt and hay, with more than one child crying. Mysteriously lose a boot but don’t realize it until your 15 minutes down the road. Followed by arguing the whole way home about who gets to paint which pumpkin what color and a toddler who has fallen asleep in the car so a nap at home is completely out of the question.

Success, baby!!! I freaking love the pumpkin patch!

FALL FUN

October 27, 2021

I can’t believe that Halloween is only 5 days away! EEEEEKKKKKK! Why does it feel like fall flies by faster than any other season?!? Too many festive things to do and not enough time! Our nights are fill with soccer practice, gymnastics, American Heritage Girls ( a Christian version of Girl Scouts), Book Club for Mama, cooking, reading, baths, and the bedtime routine that never ends. We have been trying to soak in all the fun fall activities every chance (and sunny day) we get! Last week we went to a local pumpkin patch and ate all the apple cider donuts we could get our hands on. We picked out a few pumpkins to carve, and about 47 for our porch, and are planning a fun carving party when my family gets here this weekend. I live for these moments!

We have a few more fallish things on our agenda and I’ll be sure to do a round up of all our favorites. I hope you’re having the most magical fall season, friends! Don’t let it pass you by! XO
